Don't Believe the Hype - Even Fertility Specialists Say Younger Is Better

KALB, Claudia (2001): Should You Have Your Baby Now?
A group of doctors thinks advances in fertility treatment have given women too much hope. Its new ad campaign is bound to stir up public controversy—and private anguish
in: Newsweek v. 13.08.

"Some women conceive easily after 40, and others in their 20s struggle for years unsuccessfully. That margin for hope has convinced June Cohen, 31, that she can wait. Single and loving it, Cohen is aware that it may get harder for her to conceive later in life—'I don’t know that there is a woman alive who isn’t aware of her biological clock,' she says—but she also wants to be the kind of supporting, devoted parent her mother was to her. 'I’m not there yet,' she says. 'I know I want to have kids but I know I want to have them later. And I’m really, absolutely, not worried about that.'"

NOONAN, David & Karen SPRINGEN (2001): When Dad is a Donor.
As more single women conceive children through artificial insemination, stigmas and secrecy are falling away

in: Newsweek v. 13.08.

"donor insemination evolving the way adoption did, with the emphasis shifting from the rights of the biological parents to the rights of the children".

BRENNER, Marie (2001): Not Their Mothers' Choices.
As this author traveled the country, she met many young women who said they’d rather stay home than raise children via nannies and mobile phones
in: Newsweek v. 13.08.

"Susan Faludi has observed that we have seen a 160-year panorama of women advancing and retreating; Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s and Susan B. Anthony’s progress was threatened by late Victorian political and religious mores which accused women who postponed childbearing of triggering 'race suicide.' As the flappers advanced and women voted, the 1920s and ’30s also saw a new wave of labor and federal laws that forced thousands of women out of work. There were fewer women doctors in 1930 than in 1910."

"'The women’s movement is supposed to be about choice,' Charlotte said in a recent episode of 'Sex and the City,' as she told Miranda that she had decided to quit her work at a gallery. 'And if I choose to quit my job, that is my choice.' Miranda, Carrie and Samantha had tried to change her mind, but she was adamant. 'My choice,' she said. It was impossible not to hear the anguish in her voice.
